CCO IS A CERTIFIED PLUVICTO TREATMENT CENTER
A revolutionary treatment for advanced prostate cancer is now available at Contra Costa Oncology.
Contra Costa Oncology was among the first—and remains one of only a few centers in Contra Costa County—to offer PLUVICTO® therapy. This treatment is now available to Kaiser Permanente patients with a physician referral. Ask your doctor if PLUVICTO may be right for you and request a referral to Contra Costa Oncology.
You can find out if your prostate cancer is PSMA+ by having a PSMA PET scan. PLUVICTO (lutetium Lu 177 vipivotide tetraxetan) is a new option for someone with prostate cancer that has spread to other areas of the body. PLUVICTO isn’t a cure for cancer. However, it can help some men live longer and slow the growth of their tumors. It is the first and only FDA-approved PSMA-targeted radioligand therapy that significantly extends survival in patients with this specific advanced prostate cancer.
Who does it work for and how?:
- This novel targeted molecular therapy delivers radiation treatment directly to prostate-specific membrane antigen–positive metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (PSMA-positive mCRPC).
- Metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) is a type of prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of your body and is no longer responding to hormone treatment that lowers testosterone.
- PSMA is a biomarker that is found in >80% of men with prostate cancer. It sits on the outside of prostate cancer cells. PLUVICTO can target PSMA+ cells wherever they are in the body.
- When administered, PLUVICTO attaches to the PSMA+ cancer cell and is absorbed by the cell.
- Once PLUVICTO is absorbed by the cell, it releases radiation, damaging and removing PSMA+ and other nearby cells but sparing the healthy tissue around it.
Results:
- 46% of men treated with PLUVICTO + Best Support Of Care (BSOC) had their PSA level drop by at least half, compared to 7% of those treated with BSOC alone
- Almost 30% of men treated with PLUVICTO + Best Support Of Care had their tumors shrink or disappear compared with 2% of those who received BSOC alone.
